چکیده

Although asynchronous HTTP technologies have grown in importance with the emergence of Web 2.0, most web-based Adaptive Hypermedia Systems (AHS) still exclusively use serverside monitoring of user behaviour to set up the user model. This paper discusses how asynchronous technologies and client-side observation may lead to more accurate and detailed user models, and how that might benefit nextgeneration AHS.

An Approach for Fine-Grained Web Service Performance Monitoring

Especially for the creation of Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA), Web service technologies are often the technology of choice. In this context, solutions for the management of Web services are becoming more and more important. This paper describes an approach to performance monitoring of Web services, which is based on the Application Response Measurement (ARM) standard. This approach enable...

A Novel Multi-user Detection Approach on Fluctuations of Autocorrelation Estimators in Non-Cooperative Communication

Recently, blind multi-user detection has become an important topic in code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. Direct-Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) signals are well-known due to their low probability of detection, and secure communication. In this article, the problem of blind multi-user detection is studied in variable processing gain direct-sequence code division multiple access (VPG D...

There's Something Stuck In My Shoe! Reflections on the adoption of fine and course grained authorization frameworks

A usable system has many layers. There is the end-users’ experience through web sites, interactive voice response systems, ATMs, etc. Below these interfaces are the tools and technologies to create and operate these systems. Security of deployed systems is often dependent on the functionality and usability of these underlying technologies. This paper focuses on usability issues surrounding thes...

Topic Segmentation and Labeling in Asynchronous Conversations

Topic segmentation and labeling is often considered a prerequisite for higher-level conversation analysis and has been shown to be useful in many Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications. We present two new corpora of email and blog conversations annotated with topics, and evaluate annotator reliability for the segmentation and labeling tasks in these asynchronous conversations. We propos...

The development of the World Wide Web (WWW) has made people reliant on continuous, high-speed, low-cost networks in order to get work done. Ideally, one should be able to browse the Web anytime, anywhere, whether connected to such a network or not. This paper describes the design of TeleWeb, a system we are building to support this goal. We believe that fine-grained cost control is crucial and ...
